On the Second Dog Day of Christmas, . . .

The Twelve Dog Days of Christmas
Day Two: Wagging Tails Forever

Pet Portraits

What is better than a pet portrait, especially if you ordered it or picked it up in Lisbon, Maryland, at Wagging Tail Portraits  (on Facebook, too) during the Lisbon Old Fashioned Horse Parade on Saturday, December 13, starting at 11 am? Lisbon is excitedly expecting 500 horses, mules, ponies, donkeys, hounds, wagons, carriages and even stagecoaches. (For a preview video, click here, and while you’re at it, watch Chocolate Chip and his little canine sibs. And you will also stay glued to time-lapse videos of portraits behind the scenes.)

Sherry Kendall, the dog artist and a favorite of Oprah’s, is soon to be a favorite of yours, too. Stop in at her Open House beginning at 10 am, right on the parade route.

And stay for the annual country ham and fried chicken dinner in the Fire Hall afterwards. Proceeds go to the food banks and volunteer fire department. Donations of dry goods and canned goods are appreciated. Food and hot drinks will be available along the parade route (as well as port-a-potties).

Greeting Cards

Check out the That’s Your Pet Facebook page, a regular ‘contest’ whereby the pet photo with the most votes wins a portrait package. Perhaps you have seen Forrest and Chloe, a sensation in their winter hats last year. That’s Your Pet is part of Wet Nose Greetings (on Facebook), the greeting card division created by Sherry’s daughter Natalie while in high school.
And More!

Two more of my favorite whimsical dog artists include Sara England and Jenny McMurtrie! Sara lives and works nearby in Maryland while Jenny in Virginia specializes in golden retrievers: McMurtrie’s new Holiday Hugs depicts a family of goldens in front of a tree. All three artists celebrate dog rescue.

Let them help you celebrate the holidays with your dogs! They have mugs, T-shirts, and everything else – even gift certificates.

Read more about it here.

Tomorrow: Christmas Collars
