Book Review: Girls and Their Dogs (American Girls, projects and fun)

Girls and Their Dogs, by the editors of American Girl (American Girl Publishing, 2007, 64 pages grades 4 and up, ages 9 and up, $8.95)

Ah, what would little girls do without American Girls? What did they/we do before American Girls?

American Girls products teach about history, pets, getting along with others and more. American Girls is books, DVDs, dolls, clothes (for doll and their girls) and pets – and more.

DogEvals (www.DogEvals.BlogSpot.com) has reviewed at least one DVD (Kit Kittredge, Depression, mystery, dog) and at least one book (A Girl’s Best Friend, pup) – so here is another: Girls and Their Dogs.

Adorable pups in photo and drawings (Bernese Mountain Dogs, Golden Retrievers and more).

So, you just got a new dog and don’t know what to call him? It’s all in here plus inspiring ‘tails’ of girls and their dogs (therapy dogs, rescued dogs and more), training tips (not all positive reinforcement though), recipes (pupcakes), crafts, quizzes about ears and tails plus a personality quiz for dogs (and answers, of course), even a dog dictionary of barks, howls, growls - and more! Plus, Twelve Ways to Love Your Dog. And resources, a book list and adorable puppy posters. You can even learn to draw a dog. Whew!

Enough to keep an American girl busy for a long time or at least a rainy week with a best friend!

Not a dog person? Maybe Girls and Their Horses might suit your girl better.
