Book Review: Margarita and the Beautiful Gifts (ducks, farm, ducklings and a dog)

Margarita and the Beautiful Gifts, by Janet Garman (Sawdust Publishing, 2016, 36 pages, ages 1-8)

A Delightful Read

A nice lady farmer in central Maryland gives a home to two new ducks that she names Margarita and Jimmy. In return, they want to thank her, but how?

The Good Life

Life is good on Timber Creek Farm. All the farm animals know each other and get along (mostly):

pigs and cats and chickens and sheep and, of course, all the beautiful ducks that the lady farmer loves so dearly. Because life is so idyllic, Margarita and Jimmy the duck decide to give the farmer gifts to thank her, so they start to save up.

The Real Margarita and Jimmy

Just what these gifts are, besides being beautiful, is up to you, dear reader, to find out, but on your journey you will learn fun facts about ducks in the Duck Facts snippets.

You will learn why a mother duck sometimes rolls an egg out from her nest
and that father ducks often guard the nest so the mother duck can take a break from sitting and sitting and sitting on her duck nest. Then the father is off again to do 'duck stuff.'

Can you solve the mystery when some of the duck eggs go missing?

In your choice of paperback or hard cover, or the fun and lovely gift set edition, Margarita is sure to delight your young ones with the clean, young illustrations by Jacqui Papi Shreve. And Margarita may even sneak in some educational facts about ducks or maybe make a farmer out of your child one day!
